The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation (TCCAF) will donate over 4.2 million US Dollars to support and improve health and livelihoods for over 500, 000 people in East Africa and six million people in Africa, a project set to be completed by February 2020.

TCCAF in partnership with AMREF Health Africa is set to work together with the local and national governments in adopting a systems-wide approach in implementing key project activities including multiple use water services, community-led total sanitation as well as waste management and horticulture to generate income for women and youth.

The newly launched partnership is an affiliate of TCCAF’s larger project (RAIN) launched in 2009 which is tailored to address the specific water issues in target communities to reach over six million people in Africa.

“Development needs a big shift in thinking, from just building infrastructure to creating and strengthening institutions through entrepreneurship. We know that the lasting health and economic benefits of water, sanitation and hygiene are optimized under conditions of full and sustainable access to these services” Dr. Githinji Gitahi CEO Amref Health Africa.

Even with the remarkable progress and strides in the past, there still exists a gap in improving water and sanitation in East Africa. Recently, in March 2017 more than 17 million people in East Africa were declared by the UN to be facing food insecurity due to drought.
