Uhuru maintains strong lead in Kenya’s Presidential vote

President Uhuru Kenyatta has maintained a strong lead in the presidential election count on Wednesday with 85 percent of polling stations reporting. Kenyatta with 8,034,467 ( 54.8 percent) of the vote against 6,647,710 (44.3 percent) for opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Eight candidates are contesting for the presidency – Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee Party, ODM’s Raila Odinga, Cyrus Jirongo of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Ekuru Aukot of Thirdway Alliance, Abduba Dida of the Alliance for Real Change (ARC), and Independent candidates Joseph Nyagah, Michael Wainaina and Japheth Kavinga.
On Thursday, Japheth Kavinga conceded defeat. The IEBC is currently verifying original forms 34A and 34B before declaring final presidential results of 40,883 forms from 4,883 polling stations.
