The Government through the Ministry of Interior has declared Wednesday a public holiday in what the government says it to give Kenyans more time to prepare for the presidential elections that have been slotted to take place on Thursday.

The announcement from the Interior CS Matiang’i comes after he had also declared Thursday a public holiday to allow Kenyans to participate in the presidential repeat polls.

In a gazette notice send to newsrooms and signed by CS Matiang’i, the decision to declare Wednesday a public holiday is to give Kenyans time to prepare to vote on 26th (Thursday).

CS Matiang’i says “In exercise of powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, declares that Wednesday, the 25th October 2017 be a public holiday to accord Kenyans the opportunity to participate in the Fresh Presidential Election,”
