Kenyan Shilling Enters Mashujaa Day on Weakening Trend

The Kenyan shilling has sustained its weakening trend on a fourth day running even as Kenya plans to celebrate the Mashujaa Day amidst heightened political temperature.
The shilling continued to weaken against the US Dollar on Thursday by 0.91 percent on a year-to-date basis. The shilling went down against the Sterling Pound by 8.59 percent while going further down against the Euro by 13.69 percent.
Kenyan Stock Market
The market turnover at the bourse dropped 8.7 percent to USD 4.38 million or an equivalent of 452.99 million shillings from Wednesday’s trading.
The NSE 20 and NASI declined 1.33 percent and 1.10 percent to close at 3,543.99 and 154.93 respectively.
Foreign investors, on the other hand, assumed a net buying position by accounting for 81.9% of total market purchases and 60.5 percent of total market sales.
The EAC Markets
In Rwanda, the RSE RSI and RASI were down 1.28 percent and 0.40 percent to close at 127.53 and 132.37 respectively while in Uganda, the USE ALSI dropped 0.01 percent to close at 1,664.94 while USE LCI went up 0.04 percent to close at 388.39.
