The Shilling Weakens Slightly Against the Dollar But Still Resilient

The Kenyan Shilling

The Kenyan Shilling, on Wednesday, slightly weakened against the US Dollar as compared to its performance on Monday but still gaining traction.

The shilling weakened by 0.01 percent against the US Dollar as compared to Monday. The local currency closed the day at 103.35. on a year to date basis, this was lower by 0.85 percent.

At the same time, the shilling slightly weakened against the Sterling Pound by 0.29 percent to close the day at 103.23 shillings. This was lower by 10.22 percent on a year to date basis.

Against the Euro, the Kenyan Shilling weakened by 0.46 percent from Monday’s level to close the day at 123.51 with this being 15.36 percent lower on year-to-date.

Kenyan Stock Market

The market turnover at the bourse went up by 49.4 percent to USD 8.30 million or an equivalent of 857.7 million shillings from Monday’s trading.

The NSE 20 and NASI gained 0.12 percent and 1.31 percent to close at 3,825.47 and 172.73 respectively.

The foreign investors assumed a net buying position by accounting for 77.5 percent of total market purchases and 74.1 percent of total market sales.

EAC Markets 

In Rwanda, the RSE RSI and RASI held constant at 133.40 and 133.20 respectively while in Uganda, the USE ALSI and USE LCI dropped 0.08 percent and 0.08 percent to close at 1,770.62 and 381.30 respectively.
