Equities Post Mixed Reactions on Tuesday as Indices Close in the Red

Equities posted mixed performance in Tuesday’s session with the All Share and NSE25 indices closed in the loss territory while the NSE 20 closed the session higher from the previous session.

Turnover burgeoned 168.35 percent compared to the previous session driven by trades in Safaricom Plc (NSE: SCOM), Equity Group Holdings Plc (NSE: EQTY), KCB Group Ltd (NSE: KCB), Cooperative Bank of Kenya Ltd (NSE: COOP) and Kenol Kobil Ltd (NSE: KENO) which collectively accounted for 95.9 percent of total market turnover.

The top five counters attracted activity fairly from both the local and foreign desks with local investor participation coming in lower than in the previous session.

Foreign investor activity picked up slightly in the session to account for 49.21 percent of total market activity compared to 24 percent recorded previously.

Activity spread among Safaricom, Equity, Cooperative Bank of Kenya (NSE: COOP), KCB and Kenol Kobil Ltd (NSE: KENO) which collectively accounted for 97.6 percent of the desk’s trades.

Safaricom held the lion’s share at 68.92 percent of the total foreign trades, exuding net selling sentiment in the session and recording the highest net foreign outflows. On the overall, foreign investors were net sellers in the session, for the sixth consecutive session.

Bonds turnover burgeoned in the session to 5.49 billion shillings on 57 deals compared to 1.54 billion shillings on 83 deals recorded previously.
