Shilling Gains Traction Against the Dollar, Pound and the Euro

Kenyan shilling continued to gain traction against the US Dollar, the Sterling Pound and the Euro on Tuesday.

The shilling strengthened against the US Dollar by 0.37 percent from Monday’s level to close at 101.36 shillings.

On the same day, against the Sterling Pound, the shilling strengthened by 1.53 percent Monday’s level to 141.99 shillings.

Against the Euro, the Kenya Shilling strengthened 0.67 percent from Monday’s level to 125.90.

Kenyan Stock Market

The market turnover at the bourse increased by 168.4 percent to USD 19.71 million or an equivalent to 1,997.6 million shillings from Monday’s trading.

Safaricom recorded a turnover of 1,242.3 million shillings representing 62.2 percent of the total market turnover.

The NSE 20 rose 0.11 percent while NASI dropped 0.29 percent to close at 3,759.95 and 181.38 respectively.

Foreign investors assumed a net selling position by accounting for 79.4 percent of total market sales and 21.1 percent of total market purchases.

EAC Markets   

In Uganda, the USE ALSI went up 0.77 percent to close at 2,077.66 while USE LSI held constant at 391.39 while in Rwanda, the RSI and RASI remained at 132.48 and 133.07 respectively.
