Dubai Cancels All Flights To and From Kenya as Miguna Drama Continues

In the past few days, Kenyans have been treated with an unfortunate drama involving the police, the immigration office and the self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) ‘General’ Miguna Miguna.

Miguna Miguna, who had been deported to Canada by the government seven weeks ago, had landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport following a court order that wanted him back in the country.

As soon as he landed, the afro-cinema resumed with the ‘General’ refusing to hand in his Canadian passport as well as signing a form that required him to seek afresh Kenyan citizenship.

He was then detained at JKIA with all attempts from his lawyers falling on deaf ears. At some point, the lawyers were ejected from the airport by heavily armed police officers.

NASA leaders Raila Odinga also arrived at the airport with an attempt to try and ‘rescue’ his former ‘General’ but as though to intimidate the NASA leader, Miguna Miguna was roughed up before him and forced into a Dubai bound plane.

Miguna Miguna refused to board the plane in a drama that shocked everyone. He disembarked, arrested and detained. His lawyers moved to court and the court ordered that he be produced in court the following day.

The following day, Miguna Miguna was not produced in court forcing Judge George Odunga to order the Interior CS Fred Matiang’I, the Inspector General Joseph Bonnet and the head of Immigration to appear in Court on Wednesday at 2:30 PM accompanied by Miguna Miguna.

As widely expected, the three men ignored the court order and Miguna Miguna was never produced before the judge as directed. “They think that their jobs are their birthright,” said the disappointed Judge Odunga.

As that was not enough, Kenyans woke up to the shocking news that Miguna Miguna had been deported to Dubai. According to Miguna Miguna, he was drugged, carried and bundled into the plane to Dubai.

What is raising more questions than answers is that Miguna Miguna has never stayed in Dubai and he has no affiliation with the country. It is also said that Miguna Miguna was deported without his passport and other documents.

Hours after landing, fresh developments emerged with reports that the United Arab Emirates Foreign Affairs Secretary Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zayed Al Nahyan had temporarily canceled all the flights to and from Nairobi.

It is said that the Minister has also ordered for Miguna Miguna to be brought back to Nairobi using the same flight that took him to Dubai. The Minister has also directed Kenya’s Ambassador to Dubai to appear in his office on Thursday 11 AM.

Details have also emerged that Miguna Miguna was detained in a toilet at JKIA’s Terminal 2 since Monday.
