Equities Back with a Rejuvenated Energy as all Indices Close High on Tuesday

Equities posted gains in Tuesday’s trading with all major indices closing higher from the previous session.

The turnover retreated 12.1 percent to close the day at 0.84 billion shillings from the previous session.

Activity was mainly in Safaricom Plc, Equity Group Holdings, KCB Group Ltd, British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd and East African Breweries Ltd.

The top five accounted for 81.1 percent of total market turnover with most of the interest emanating from both the local and foreign desks with locals pushing the top two banking counters in the session.

Foreign investor activity increased in Tuesday’s session to account for 52.35 percent of total market activity from 22.1 percent recorded previously.

Activity from this desk was mostly in SCOM, EABL, EQTY, KCB and British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd.

The desk mostly bought into DTK, BAT, BAMB, NIC, and SCOM while exiting EQTY and KCB.

On the overall, the desk recorded net foreign inflows in the session similar to the past two consecutive sessions.

Bonds turnover increased to 2.52 billion shillings on 55 deals from 1.29 billion shillings on 41 deals in the previous session.
