Equities Post Varied Performance on Monday’s Session

Equities posted varied performance in the first session this week with the All Share and the NSE 20 closing in the red while the NSE 25 closed up in Monday’s trading.
Turnover went up 32.01 percent to 0.95 billion shillings from the previous session with activity mainly in KenolKobil Ltd, Equity Group Holdings Plc, Safaricom Plc, Diamond Trust Bank Kenya Ltd and East African Breweries Ltd.
Notably, KENO accounted for 54.6 percent of total market turnover on account of local fund account book over trades as well as local retail activity.
Equity rallied in the session, up 2.17 percent exuding increased local investor activity and buying interest from the foreign desk. The top five counters accounted for 90.8 percent of total market activity.
Foreign investors reduced their activity in Monday’s session, accounting for 22.1 percent of total trades compared to 44.39 percent recorded previously.
Activity from this desk was mostly in EQTY, SCOM, EABL, Nation Media Group Ltd (NSE: NMG), and DTK. The desk bought into Equity, SCOM, DTK, Centum Investments Plc (NSE: ICDC) and KENOL.
Foreign investors were sellers on Williamson Tea, NMG, Sasini, KPLC and Barclays Bank of Kenya Ltd (NSE: BBK). On overall, the desk recorded net foreign inflows in the session similar to the previous session.
Bonds turnover declined to 1.29 billion shillings on 41 deals from 1.55 billion shillings on 48 deals in the previous session.
