Equities Vary in Performance as the Week Comes to an End

Equities closed the week on a varied performance with all major indices closing south in today’s session.

Turnover decreased to 0.98 billion shillings from 0.99 billion shillings recorded in the previous session.

Activity was mainly in Safaricom Plc, Bamburi Cement Ltd, Equity Group Holdings Plc, East African Breweries Ltd and KCB Group Ltd.

Most of the volumes moved in the counters were traded by local investors while foreign investors mainly traded Safaricom.

Local investors remained active on the banking sector counters. The top five traded counters accounted for 79.8 percent of total market turnover.

Foreign investors activity further reduced in the session to account for 38.26 percent of total market activity from 47.02 percent recorded in the previous session.

The desk mainly bought into Bamburi Cement Ltd (NSE: BAMB), EQTY, KCB, EABL and Centum investments Plc (NSE: ICDC).

Net selling activity from this desk was mainly seen in SCOM and Barclay Bank of Kenya Ltd (NSE: BBK).

On the overall, the desk recorded net foreign outflows for the second consecutive session after a three-session net buying streak.

Bonds turnover increased to 3.03 billion shillings on 40 deals from 2.78 billion on 67 deals in the previous session.
