Safaricom Introduces the Lipa na M-PESA Cash Back Promotion
Safaricom on Monday launched a campaign called Lipa Na M-PESA Cash Back Promotion aimed at rewarding its customers. The promotion is part of the company’s strategic focus on boldening the Lipa Na M-PESA usage in trading activities.
The promotion, which will run for the next two months, is aimed at rewarding customers who meet their weekly target with monetary prizes ranging from 5 shillings to 100 shillings. By pressing *234#, the customers can confirm their target and spend.
“Lipa Na M-PESA already offers a handy and secure mobile payment solution that guarantees a seamless customer experience. Moreover, customers will now be able to earn back some of their cash once they hit the target,” said the Director – Enterprise Business, Safaricom, Rita Okuthe.
Over the last 12 months, customers and retailers have benefitted from several improvements with the Lipa Na M-PESA service. For instance, in May 2017, Safaricom reduced the merchant fees by 50 percent making it free for merchants to accept payments of 200 shillings and below. The company has also rolled out M-PESA 1Tap that reduces the procedures involved in making payments while elevating accuracy and convenience when paying by M-PESA.
According to date from the Central Bank of Kenya, mobile payments were the most preferred mode of cashless payment in the country in December 2017. This accounted for 88 percent of such transactions.
