Shilling Closes the Week by Gaining Traction Against the Dollar

The Kenyan shilling closed the week on a high note by gaining traction against the US Dollar, the Sterling Pound and the Euro.

On Friday, the shilling strengthened against the US Dollar by 0.10 percent from Thursday’s level to close the day at 101.29 shillings to the dollar.

Against the Sterling Pound, the Kenyan Shilling strengthened 0.67 percent from Thursday’s level to 139.23.

Against the Euro, the Kenya Shilling strengthened 0.45 percent from Thursday’s level to 123.31.

Kenyan Stock Market

Market turnover at the bourse decreased by 63.8 percent to USD 7.13 million or an equivalent to 722.2 million shillings from Thursday’s trading.

The NSE 20 and NASI declined 0.48 percent and 0.40 percent to close at 3,755.95 and 181.26.

Foreign investors assumed a net buying position by accounting for 55.9 percent of total market purchases and 33.0 percent of total market sales.

EAC Markets

In Rwanda, the RSI and RASI dropped 0.11 percent and 0.02 percent to close at 131.80 and 132.97 respectively while Uganda, the USE ALSI rose 1.13 percent to close at 2,078.81 while USE LCI declined 0.01 to close at 392.97.
