Shilling Gains Traction Against US Dollar, Sterling Pound and the Euro

The Kenyan Shilling

The Kenyan shilling gained traction on Thursday against three global giants; the US Dollar, the Sterling Pound, and the Euro.

The shilling strengthened against the US Dollar by 0.23 percent from the session on Wednesday to close the day at 101.38 shillings to the dollar.

The shilling went ahead to shine against the Sterling Pound by 1.00 percent from Wednesday’s level to 140.17 shillings to the pound.

Against the Euro, the Kenya Shilling strengthened 0.93 percent from Wednesday’s level to 123.86.

Kenyan Stock Market

The market turnover at the bourse was up 139.6 percent to USD 19.68 million or an equivalent to 1,995.5 million shillings from Wednesday’s trading.

The NSE 20 and NASI rose 0.62 percent and 0.12 percent to close at 3,774.04 and 181.99 respectively.

Foreign investors assumed a net selling position by accounting for 28.8 percent of total market purchases and 22.3 percent of total market sales.

EAC Markets   

In Rwanda, the RSI and RASI rose 0.37 percent and 0.05 percent to close at 131.95 and 132.99 respectively.

In Uganda, the USE ALSI and USE LCI went up 0.54 percent and 0.21 percent to close at 2,055.62 and 393.12.
