The British American Tobacco has dropped 24 employees from its team at a cost of 392 million shillings.

According to the management, the employees were sent home as the company embarked on a ‘serious’ automation of the majority of its services.

In 2016, the company sent home the first batch of employees at a cost of 338.1 million shillings as the starting of technology-based services.

The company’s earnings for the financial year ending December 2017 stood at 3.3 billion shillings, a 21.2 percent drop.

BAT currently has 400 employees on the permanent basis. The company now says that almost two-thirds of its machines have been automated.
