Kenyan Markets: Shilling Slightly Weakens on Friday

Kenyan Shilling Performance

Against the US Dollar, the Kenyan Shilling weakened 0.07 percent from Thursday’s level to 101.07. On a year-to-date basis, the shillings is 0.07 stronger.

Against the Sterling Pound, the Kenyan Shilling weakened 0.39% from Thursday’s level to 135.32. The local currency is 2.47% year-to-date basis against the pound.

Against the Euro, the Kenya Shilling weakened 0.16% from Thursday’s level to 118.50. The shilling is 3.88% year-to-date against the Euro.

Kenyan Stock Market

Market turnover at the bourse rose 39.2 percent to USD 6.80 million or an equivalent to 687.5 million shillings from Thursday’s trading.

The NSE 20 and NASI declined 1.24 percent and 0.67 percent to close at 3,364.58 and 175.37 respectively.

Foreign investors assumed a net selling position by accounting for 50.3 percent of total market sales and 5.5 percent of total market purchases.

EAC Markets   

In Rwanda, the RSI and RSE ALSI remained constant at 132.34 and 133.05 respectively while in Uganda, the USE ALSI declined 0.22 percent and 0.13 percent to close at 2,089.33 and 416.50 respectively.
