Dry Onions Retailing Averagely at Sh.773 Across the Country

Kenyan traders are paying an average of 773 shillings for a 13-kilogram bag of Dry Onions.

This is after the market prices for Onions declined following the high production rates of the commodity after the long rain season in the past four months.

A 13-kilogram bag is being sold at 1,040 shillings in Nairobi and Kisumu, which is also the highest compared to other towns, 780 shillings in Eldoret, 750 shillings in Nakuru, 720 shillings in Malindi, 6,50 shillings in Isiolo, and 600 shillings in Kitale and Mombasa respectively.

A 64-kilogram bag of Tomatoes, on the other hand, is being retailed at 5,000 shillings in Kitale, 4,800 shillings in Nairobi, 4,500 shillings in Eldoret and Isiolo respectively, 4,000 shillings in Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru respectively and 2,250 shillings in Malindi.

The table below gives a summary of market prices for different commodities in selected towns across the country:

A 138-kilogram bag of Carrots, on the other hand, is being sold at an average market price of 3,906 shillings, with Kitale having the highest market price of 7,000 shillings and Eldoret the lowest, at 1,800 shillings.

A 44-kilogram bag of Brinjals is retiling at 3,080 shillings in Isilo, 2,700 shillings in Kitale, 2,250 shillings in Nairobi, 2,000 shillings in Nakuru, 1,760 shillings in Malindi, 1,500 shillings in Kisumu and 9,00 shillings in Mombasa.
