Florence Kajuju Approved for Top Ombudsman Office

The Former Meru woman Representative, Florence Kajuju, has been approved for the position of chairperson of the Commission on Administrative Justice.

Kajuju, who was approved by the Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, will succeed the now Rarieda MP who was elected to parliament in the 2017 elections.

The Commission on Administrative Justice office, commonly referred to as the Ombudsman, is mandated to investigate injustices such as unfair treatment, abuse of office, corrupt or irresponsible public officers among others.

Kajuju’s approval came despite a memorandum by petitioner Mbae M’Mbijiwe contesting her eligibility.   

Other nominations approved by the Committee to the Ombudsman office are those of Lucy Kamunye Ndung’u and Washington Opiyo Sati.

Kajuju and members of the commission will be appointed for one term of six years after which they will not be eligible to run for another term.

According to the committee  Kajuju’s academic credentials, professional training and experience are extensive adding to the fact that she meets the requirements of Section 10(1) and (3) of the Commission on Administrative Justice Act of 2011.

The report further stated that Kajuju holds a degree in law from the Nairobi University with an advantage of more than 20 years of experience as a High Court advocate and her extensive experience in the 11th Parliament during her tenure in various public entities which makes her the most suitable candidate among the nominees.

The report concluded that Kajuju had met the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity as she had been cleared by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Kenya Revenue Authority, the Registrar of Political Parties, the Higher Education Loans Board and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.
