The average retailing price of maize across the country stands at 2,335 shillings for every 90 kilograms with Malindi being the highest at 3,150 per 90 kilograms as at 31st August 2018.
Meanwhile, farmers in Eldoret have to contend with a remarkably low price of 1,600 per 90 kilograms compared to other towns. The price of Nakuru is slightly higher than that of Eldoret and a bag of dry maize goes for 1,800 shillings.
The prices for the same in Mombasa, Nairobi, Kisumu, and Isiolo goes for 2,000, 2,500, 2600, and 2,700 shillings respectively.
There is a slight difference between dry maize and green maize prices in the same towns. A 90-kilogram bag of dry maize averages 2414 shillings across the towns with Mombasa being the highest as it sells at 4,000 shillings.
In Isiolo, green maize is retailing at 3,000 shillings. The price of dry maize and green maize remains the same in Nairobi at 2,500 per 90 kilograms.
Green maize in Kisumu retails at 2,300 shillings, Malindi at 2,400 shillings, Nakuru at 1,500 shillings, and once again the lowest in Eldoret at 1,200 shillings.
One kilogram of dry maize averages at 25.95 shillings while that of green maize goes for an average of 21 shillings.
