Accident Wipes Out Sarova Hotels Chairman and Three Other Family Members

The Chairman of Sarova Hotels, Mr. Saveer Vohra, his wife, daughter, and daughter-in-law perished in a road accident that happened on Sunday evening along Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

According to Mukaa police boss, Mr. Charles Muthui, Mr. Vohra was driving the vehicle when the accident occurred where two family members died on the spot and the other two died on arrival to the hospital.

The four family members were traveling back to Nairobi after attending a religious ceremony that had taken place at Makindu Sikkh Temple.

Witnesses recounted how the speeding Toyota Prado veered off the road and rolled several times before landing into a ditch, killing two on the spot.

According to family members, this is the second latest tragedy to hit the family after they lost their father in 2017 in a road crash.

JS Vohra, died after his car rolled around Amboseli Lodge while he was on his way to watching the East African Safari Classic Rally in November.

The death of the Vohras as a family comes a month after another family in Thome Estate was wiped out following a road accident. Peter Kimani, his wife Zipprah Kimani and their son David Gikonyo were involved in a road accident that killed them all.

The three were on their way to attend a friend’s funeral in Molo when they met their deaths at Kinungi where husband and wife died on the spot and the son later in hospital.

This is not the first time a whole family is perishing in a road accident. During the month, a bus rolled at Fort Ternan in Kericho, killing 58 people. Most families in Western Kenya lost more than one family member. In one family, for instance, a husband, wife and two kids died during the accident.

Perhaps it is time for family members to rethink their traveling arrangement and consider using different vehicles.
