Tecno mobile phones are dominating the market with a current market share of 20.44 percent probably because of their affordable market price.

Tecno mobiles closely follow a variety of unknown mobile phones that when combined own a 23.17 percent of the market share.

Samsung, which is popular for its ultra-high pricey sleek galaxy phones, followed in at third position with a market share of 15.22 percent. Samsung’s smartphone market share has dipped globally with 78 million smartphone units shipped in the first quarter of 2018 as compared to a similar period in 2017 when 80 million units were shipped.

2018 witnessed the introduction of Galaxy S9 and S9+smartphones. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 has been on sale for a whopping 105,000 shillings.

Infinix held the fourth position with 11.53 percent while Chinese device maker, Huawei, stands at fifth position with a market share of 7.25 percent.

Nokia drew 4.12 percent of the market share while itel and Oppo tied at 2.53 percent with Apple holding the least shares at 2.03 percent.

Apple’s devices are known to be expensive with iPhone X, which is their latest, selling for around130, 000 shillings

Smartphone clients seem to be shunning the high-end gadgets and going for the more pocket-friendly smart devices.

Chinese device makers still led the way. Huawei, Android’s second largest device maker, for instance, saw its market share climb to 11.7% from 10% the same time last year.

Even though Huawei’s high-end smartphones haven’t been the dearest on the market hence the increase in their popularity in China, buyers still preferred its cheaper mid-range devices like the lite versions of popular high-end models in markets where it is increasingly becoming a popular alternative to pricey offerings from Apple and Samsung like Western Europe.
