The 2018 KCPE exams have officially been released by the Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed at the Star of the Sea Primary school, in Mombasa, in the presence of education officials and 453 marks is the top mark.

The 453 top mark was achieved by two candidates while 12,273 of the candidates scored 400 marks and above according to the CS.

The CS applauded the candidates after noting that over 50 percent of them scored above 250 marks out of the 500 set marks. The number of special exam candidates also grew this year with the highest performer scoring 446 marks from last year’s 423 marks

CS Amina applauded the performance saying there was a notable improvement in the results which she attributed to a fair exam environment.

2018’s KCPE exams began on 30th October and ended on 3rd November with 531,668 boys which translate to 50.1 percent boys and 529,124 girls sitting the national exam.

TSC chair, Macharia, said 26 teachers had been involved in cheating during the KCPE examination period while CS Amina said that none of the nine papers had been leaked.

Macharia further warned schools to avoid employing sex pests while adding that the body was ashamed of teacher’s involved in impregnating school girls.

Education PS Belio Kipsang encouraged parents to accept the results and care for their children.

CS Amina was obviously disappointed with the huge number of teenage pregnancies as she termed it a challenge in the country. The CS termed the huge number of teenage pregnancies as a national crisis of huger magnitude than the Ministry had foreseen.

CS Amina further called upon parents, guardians and the society to reject individualism in raising children as it takes a village to raise a child. “We have refused to teach and care for our children, placing their rights over irrelevant things,” the CS said. The event climaxed with a moment of silence in respect of candidates who had lost their lives such as Nikita Koyier who died during the National exams period.

The CS reiterated that Holiday tuition remains illegal and anyone caught will face the law.

Form 1 selection has been scheduled for 3rd December. To get a KCPE candidate’s result, send their index number to 20076.
