Grand Manor Hotel Demolished as SANY Marks Comeback

The multi-billion shillings Grand Manor Hotel was on Thursday morning brought down by City Hall after the High Court rejected an application to stop its destruction.

The hotel which is in an upmarket area of Gigiri next to the United Nations Headquarters is owned by businessman Praful Kumar who had been served with orders to stop construction of the building on 17^th December 2017.

The five-star facilities, according to Kumar, was 75 percent complete and he had already paid 2.7 billion shillings for its approvals by the Nairobi County government. Why the County Government would demolish a facility it approved for construction also came to light once more.

The Grand Manor hotel is the most recent victim in a list of multibillion-shilling structures demolished by City Hall since July 2018 in an effort by the Government to reclaim riparian land.

Buildings brought down for being on riparian land include Airgate Mall, a Shell Petrol Station and Java hotel in Kileleshwa and a shopping complex next to T-Mall along Lang’ata Road in Nairobi.
