The festive season is a time when we get time to have time with our loved ones. This is one season when one is expected to go out of their way and do something that will be worth remembering as the year comes to an end.

A lot of saving is done throughout the year so that we can be able to spend the money during this period for traveling, shopping and even buying gifts for our friends and family.

There are plenty of ways one can cut down on the festive expenses through the following ways:

Make a budget

Budgeting is the most basic and the most effective tool for managing your money.  Budgeting also connotes that you have to give up and stop yourself from enjoying.

Christmas spending often goes overboard when consumers fail to reconcile their budget with their shopping list. To avoid overspending, determine how much you can afford to spend on Christmas and then make a list of all your holiday obligations, including presents, travel, and decorations. Then note down how much will be spent on everything on the list.

Shop with gift vouchers

A gift card or voucher is a prepaid stored-value money card that is usually issued by a retailer or bank to be used as an alternative to cash for purchases within a particular store or related businesses. They can also be given out by retailers and marketers as part of a promotion strategy, to entice the recipient to come in or return to the store.

Gift vouchers are generally redeemable only for purchases at the relevant retail premises and cannot be cashed out, and in some situations may be subject to expiry date or fees.

This the period when one can make use of such gift vouchers which can be bought at cheaper prices or sometimes, they are given out freely as rewards. They will save you big time since you will not be paying for shopping or your travel expenses using cash.

Cheap gift ideas

It has not been written anywhere that one must use cash to buy a Christmas gift. For this reason, it is a good opportunity for those with special skills to use them come up with something that will be given as a gift to friends and family. If one paints, they can come up with a good painting design that is well done and give it out as a Christmas gift. This will help cut down on the cost of going out and buying the same thing.

If you bake then one can make cakes and give them out as gifts too.

Alternatives to gifts

Instead of buying everyone on your list an expensive present, take the money that you could have spent on gifts and treat everyone to dinner at your favorite restaurant, an evening at the movies or an afternoon at an escape room. The feeling of having quality time with friends and family will leave even more impact than buying a single gift and giving everyone.
