Top 5 Businesses That Will Survive 2019 In Kenya

BY Soko Directory Team · December 26, 2018 05:12 am

2019 is just few days away. The year 2018 has not been that friendly to businesses in Kenya and 2019 might not be different either.

400,000 SMEs die annually in Kenya. 80 percent of those SMEs that die annually, do so in their first year of being established.

The SME sector employs 86 percent of Kenyans and contributes more than 45 percent to Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Here are five businesses you can start and survive through 2019:

Start a butchery

The meat industry is very lucrative in Kenya. People are always eating meat especially in major urban centers. Set up a small and clean butchery and start making some money throughout the year. Don’t forget to have a small nyama choma beside it. You will not regret.

Set up a chemist or a hospital

Allow me to call it the sick Industry. The sick industry in Kenya is a lucrative business. People are always getting sick and people are always looking for medication. By the way, you do not need to be a doctor to start a chemist or a hospital.

Start a fast food joint

There is nothing as consistent and as consistent as hunger. People are ever hungry and when they are, they need food, fast food. Set up one at a strategic location. Make it interesting by doing deliveries in offices and homes.

Sell fruits and vegetables

Some people think this is a “small business”, oh no. Ladies and gentlemen, people are making a living out of this. Sell fresh fruits, fresh juices and vegetables and money will keep on trickling in.

Start doing laundry

This is a sector that is largely underutilized. Many existing laundry joints are expensive and not for everybody. Start yours. Make it affordable. What is more, instead of clients coming to you, why don’t you go to them?

If you are looking to start a business, please consider the above.
