The new generation driving license was rolled out in Kenya in early 2018 with thousands of motorists expected to have it through the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
By 2021, every motorist in the country is expected to have acquired the new driving license but not many of them are aware of the processes involved in applying for the same.
Designed like an ATM, the new generation driving license is loaded with points that get deducted every time a motorist commits a traffic offense. Any license that is emptied of points is ultimately withdrawn from use.
To apply for the new licenses, you need to do the following.
Create an NTSA TIMS account
TIMS (Transport Integrated Management System) is an online platform introduced by NTSA that allows one to register and transfer their motor vehicle. One needs to create an account on the NTSA TIMS platform first.
Visit the NTSA offices
One will be required to go physically at the NTSA offices with the following:
Confirm details
You will then need to log in to your NTSA TIMS account with the assistance of an NTSA agent
Printing
The license will then be printed and then a validation carried out to confirm that everything has been done as required. The Driving License can then be picked after 5 days.
