Top 10 Most Punctual Airlines Worldwide

Panama’s Copa Airline has been named the world’s most punctual airline according to the latest edition of OAG’s Punctuality League which tracked 58 million flights records in 2018 to determine the airlines with the best on-time performance.

OAG defines on-time performance as a flight that arrives or departs within 15 minutes of its scheduled arrival/departure time. That also takes into account instances of cancellation.

Last year, 89.79 percent of Copa Airlines operated on schedule, slightly ahead of airBaltic’s 89.17 percent which came in second in the ranking. Panama also did well in the airport segment with Panama City named the most punctual medium-sized airport worldwide.

Hong Kong Airlines came in third in the ranking with an 88.11 percent on-time performance. Hawaiian Airlines was the only U.S airline to make it to the Top 10 most punctual airlines ranking, taking up the fourth position with a score of 87.52 percent.

On the other hand, South Africa’s Mango Airlines has been ranked first on the list of the most on-time African Airlines. The airlines also featured fourth on the list of the most on-time low-cost carriers globally and nineteenth in the category of most on-time Top 20 airlines worldwide.

Acting CEO of Mango Airlines, Marelize Labuschagne said in a statement, “Being named the most punctual airline in South Africa, and on the continent, is a testament to our team’s hard work at making this happen. A lot goes into reaching a solid on-time performance record.”

Qatar Airways which was ranked ninth in OAG’s Punctuality League with a score of 85.17 percent was named the most punctual airline in the Middle East. Qatar Airways has accomplished this feat at the time when it is expanding its footprint across the world.
