Top 10 Universities in Kenya To Choose From in 2019

Results were out early as promised by the Ministry of Education and those that cleared form four are obviously excited to enroll to the next level.

Being in University comes with a lot of freedom but never ever forget that freedom comes with responsibility once you join the University. In form four, you were the eldest but just like you were in form one you will be the youngest in university and will be referred to as a fresher, naïve and exposed.

Universities in the country have greatly increased and as you try to find your footing, we list to you the top Universities as published by UniRank in the 2018 Kenyan University Ranking. The ranking was based on the following criteria:

  • University chartered, licensed and/or accredited by the appropriate Kenyan higher education-related organization.
  • University that offers at least four-year undergraduate degrees (bachelor degrees) or postgraduate degrees (master or doctoral degrees)
  • delivering courses predominantly in a traditional, face-to-face, non-distance education format

Nairobi of University (UON)

Nairobi University has branch campuses in Kikuyu, Parklands, Lower Kabete, Upper Kabete, Chiromo, Kisumu.

It is officially accredited and/or recognized by the Commission for University Education, Kenya. It has a huge enrolment and UniRank enrollment estimates that it has over 45,000 students.

UON offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study.

Egerton University (EU)

Egerton University was founded in 1987 and is in the suburban setting of the village of Njoro, Nakuru.

Egerton has a population range of under 2,500 students. Egerton also has branch campuses in Laikipia, Kisii and Nakuru Town.

Egerton is officially accredited and/or recognized by the Commission for University Education, Kenya. Egerton University (EU) is a large coeducational higher education institution with an enrolment range of 10,000-14,999 students.

Egerton University (EU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. Egerton does not have a selective admission policy.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT)

JKUAT was established in 1994 in the capital city of Nairobi. JKUAT has branch campuses in Mombasa, Taita Taveta, Nakuru, Kisii, Kitale and Arusha in Tanzania.
