SANY Demolishes Prime Place Restaurant and Kiambu Senator’s Car Bazaar

The Prime Place Restaurant and Carpet and carwash cleaning business along Aerodrome Road behind Nyayo stadium have been brought down in the wee hours of the morning of 15th February in efforts to reclaim the land alleged to belong to Kenya Railways.

A car bazaar said to belong to Kiambu Senator, Kimani Wamatangi is part of the structures demolished in SANY’s wake. The car bazaar is situated opposite the Nyayo National Stadium and a few meters from the Aerodrome road and the railway line.

The demolition has caused a major traffic snarl-up on the ever busy Lang’ata Road heading into town as police blocked the road leading to the traffic jam spilling to other roads. A heavy police presence to ensure the task is carried out safely has been witnessed.

The demolition is the first in 2019 after major structures that majorly included malls were brought down for occupying riparian or public land.

The Nairobi county government has continually sworn to bring down all structures on public and riparian land which have already been marked and notified.

Kenyans have applauded the Government for reclaiming the land but have also come out in large numbers to express disappointment in what they term as ‘selective justice’ for the exemption of the demolition of the Weston Hotel along Lang’ata road.

The Weston hotel which is owned by the Deputy President William Ruto is said to be partially sitting on land belonging to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority. DP Ruto was recently quoted confirming to the media that indeed the land the Weston hotel is sitting on was illegally acquired reviving a storm of why the hotel is yet to be demolished.
