Billionaire Jeremiah Kiereini Dies a Year after Implicating CMC Report

Jeremiah Kiereini is dead. Sources close to his family say Jeremiah died on the evening of 13th May aged 90 years.
Kiereini was a recognized business mogul in Kenya and the former head of Public Service.
Jeremiah Kiereini, an established billionaire, served as former chairperson of the East African Breweries Limited (EABL) at one point. Kiereini authored a memoir ‘A Daunting Journey’, before his demise.
A Makerere University alumnus in Uganda, the late billionaire, and business mogul had also been employed by the Indian High Commission in the 1950s before joining the colonial Civil Service at the height of the Mau Mau uprising.
Kiereini hit the limelight again after his retirement when his two sons died in disturbing ways. In 2017, the body of Githae, Kiereini’s son, was discovered decomposed in an apartment. It was in the same apartment that Keireini’s other son had died six years earlier.
Pathologists were unable to conclude on the possible cause of death for Githae which remains a public mystery to date.

Kiereini was last year, March 2018, forced to pay a penalty of 131 million shillings for siphoning cash from the then publicly traded firm and stashing it abroad according to the regulator. Kiereini had been a Chairman of the delisted motor vehicle dealer CMC Holdings at the time he was accused of committing the crime with the Company’s CEO, Mark Forster.
In the audit report by South African law firm Webber Wentzel, Kiereini and Forster were named as having been aware of the existence of the secret offshore account.
The report comprehensively revealed how prices of imported vehicles were inflated and the excess cash was stashed in a secret account.
Kiereini’s death comes a year after the report was published and he went to court to challenge the findings and his implication.
President Kenyatta has condoled with the family of the late billionaire describing him as a towering reform-minded public servant and patriotic Kenyan who served his country with distinction.
