Over 1000 delegates from the oil and gas industry are set to attend the upcoming 9th East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition (EAPCE 19’) that will be held on May 8th – 10th 2019, at the Pride Inn Paradise Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa, Kenya.

The conference seeks to provide a unique avenue for dialogue for all players in the oil and gas industry regionally and internationally. East Africa partner state leaders will be in attendance as they discuss the opportunities for investment in this sector.

Ministry of Petroleum and Mining, Cabinet Secretary, Hon. John Munyes noted that since the inception of the EAPCE, tremendous achievements have been realized in the oil and gas sector within the region.

“We are all aware that without sufficient and affordable energy, we can neither create wealth nor enhance our competitiveness, production, trade, and investments. The EAC, therefore, attaches great significance to cooperation in the exploration and development of energy resources available in the region. As agreed in the EAC Treaty the EAC Partner States shall follow concerted measures to cooperate in the efficient and sustainable management of Natural Resources for their mutual benefit,” said Mr. Munyes.

Hon. Munyes added that Kenya needs robust infrastructure for oil and gas operations such as pipeline for crude oil, processed products, storage facilities, and other related facilities. He added that the country needs investment in the marketing of crude oil to the international market, LNG/LPG infrastructure and technology transfer, and training.

The Principal Secretary, State Department for Petroleum Mr. Andrew Kamau said that the conference was timely as Kenya opens up 35 petroleum exploration blocks to prospective investors in the oil exploration industry.

“As a country, we are delighted to host this conference as it provides us a platform to showcase the strides Kenya has made. In particular, the progress we have made with our Early Oil Pilot Scheme (EOPS), the Lokichar – Lamu Crude oil pipeline and our field development studies,” said Mr. Kamau.

The theme of the conference is the East African region – the destination of choice for oil and gas investment opportunities to enhance socio-economic transformation.

A key highlight of the conference is the scheduled launch of Uganda’s second licensing round by the country’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Eng. Irene N. Muloni on May 8th, 2019.
