The debate as to whether data held by the government of Kenya is safe raged once again after hackers brought down several government websites on Monday.

The attack from the hackers came a few weeks after the government completed the exercise of registering Kenyans into the New Huduma Namba system with the promise that the “data was safe.”

Some of the websites included the National Youth Service (NYS). The government website harbors all the information about the youth agency.

The Integrated Financial Management System (IFMIS) website was also brought down by hackers. IFMIS runs crucial tasks of government finances, especially in payments.

The websites attacked were:

  1. National Youth Service (NYS)
  2. Integrated Financial Management System (IFMIS)
  3. Judicial Service Commission (JSC)
  4. The Immigration Department
  5. Kenya Meat Commission
  6. Petroleum Ministry
  7. Refugees Affairs
  8. National Environment Trust Fund
  9. Department of Planning and the National Development Implementation Technical Committee.

The websites are said to have been hacked by Indonesian hackers who have been on a series of website hacks in the country.
