Masinde Muliro student Found Dead in His Apartment in Kakamega

Sydney Ogeto, a fourth-year student at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, was yesterday found dead in his house at Kefinco-Jua kali area in Kakamega county.

According to his close friends, Sydney had been complaining that he was not feeling well and that he suspected he was suffering from malaria.

One of his friends who sought anonymity said that she had spoken to Sydney the previous week, and that he had complained that he was suffering from malaria but had not obtained medication yet. When she told him to seek medical help, Sydney assured her that he would do so later as it was still raining outside. “That was the last time I spoke to Sydney,” she said, trying to hold her tears back.

After efforts to try to reach him through his phone proved futile, some of his friends resorted to going to his house to inquire about his whereabouts and why he was not responding to phone calls, close sources say.

“We had seen Sydney the last time on Friday the 13^th and he was just doing okay,” one of his close friends said.

“After efforts to reach him through his phone proved futile, we resorted to go see him, broke into his house as the door was locked from inside, only to find his body lying on the bed lifelessly,” the friend added.

The deceased was known to be a humble guy and a man of few words and somehow an introvert, according to people who knew him.

He was an outgoing individual who did not like to meddle in other people’s business.

Vincent Simiyu Lumala, the student council president at the university, commented that Sydney’s death was shocking and urged the police to investigate deeply to unearth the actual cause of his death. He also added that the university had been hit by the same incidence in the previous months where another student was found dead in his house.

At the time of his death, Sydney Ogeto was a fourth-year student who had finalized his studies and was awaiting to graduate this year in December. Most students were also on their long holidays during this incident.

Kakamega Central Police Commissioner David Kabena confirmed the incident and assured the students that serious investigations would be launched to establish the actual cause of death.
