Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso’s Death: Milestones and Her Treatment Journey

Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso has become the third public figure to lose her life to cancer in the month of July 2019, alone shedding light to what seems to a cancer burden stagnating in the Country.

Joyce Laboso who has died of Colon cancer was one of the three female governors in the Country which has now brought the number down to two female governors.

Joyce Laboso was diagnosed with advanced Colon cancer in 2018 upon which she travelled to the United Kingdom to seek specialized treatment.

Laboso was later referred to India for further treatment but was sent back home in Kenya, as the colon cancer had spread to incurable stages, where she landed on 14^th July 2019.

Joyce Laboso, shortly after her arrival in Kenya, was admitted to the Nairobi Hospital where her health deteriorated and had Doctors put her in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on the morning hours of the 29^th July 2019.

Governor Joyce Laboso was the first female deputy speaker of the National Assembly before running for the governorship of Bomet county where she beat the then Governor Isaac Ruto.

Laboso’s win for the Bomet seat was celebrated as her contender, Isaac Ruto, was a force to reckon with and had even been the Chair of the Council of Governors.

Governor Joyce Laboso will also be celebrated as one of the first group of students to go to school despite a culture that discriminated girls when it came to education.

The death of Joyce Laboso comes exactly two days after the death of Kibra Member of Parliament (MP) Hon. Ken Okoth who is yet to be laid to rest while Bob Collymore, the CEO of Safaricom, largest telecommunication company in Kenya, died on 1^st July 2019. Bob Collymore was cremated on the 2^nd of July 2019 according to his wishes.

The death of the three public figures is only a representation of the spread of cancer in the Country as statistics show that the World is glaring at a crisis.
