Government to Hire 3,000 Interns at 25,000 Shillings Monthly Pay

In a country where the majority of the population is unemployed despite a ballooning economic situation, the Public Service Commission (PSC) seems to have plans to deliver one of the Jubilee Government’s Big Four Agenda as it has announced that it kicks off hiring of interns who will be paid a standard 25,000 shillings per month.

Stephen Kirogo, the PSC chairman, revealed this while he was presenting before the National Assembly Committee on National Cohesion that the PSC is drafting a policy to guide the recruitment.

Mr.Kirogo said the recruitment would start in August where qualified individuals would be required to apply directly to PSC.

According to Mr.Kirogo, PSC plans to hire 3,000 interns who will later be posted to various stations by mid-September.

Unemployment in Kenya is currently a pain to many with the number of jobs created each year diminishing as time passes.

Kenya’s Parliament revised the PSC budget for the Financial Year that began in July to make inclusion for one billion shillings purposed to facilitate the hiring of interns.

Kenya’s graduates have been disadvantaged for decades with the employment sector exploiting them to work for as long as years without receiving a single penny not even any form of an allowance to cover for their commuting or food.

Regional institutions have been blamed for producing half-baked graduates who are not prepared for the job market but are instead ‘over-fed’ on theory.

“The advert we are preparing will focus on all 290 constituencies and our plan is to recruit at least 30 interns per constituency,” Mr. Kirogo revealed to the Parliamentary committee.

Unemployed Kenyans can only wait in anticipation hoping that the process of recruitment will not be marred by corruption and they will get a chance for their qualifications to be reviewed.
