The embattled Kiambu Governor, Ferdinand Waititu has been released on a 15 million bail by the High Court pending the determination of a graft case facing him of a loss of 588 million shillings County funds.
The Kiambu Governor has also been barred by the High Court from accessing his office to avoid any interference with the ongoing investigations.
Waititu had earlier been arraigned on 29th July alongside his wife Susan Wangari together with eight others believed to have benefited from the missing 588 million shillings County money.
The arrest and arraignment of Governor Waititu is as a result of a continued effort by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Haji and the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kinoti who continue to put corrupt prominent figures to accountability.
Waititu remains at loss in explaining what happened to a whopping 588 million shillings county funds related to an irregular procurement of a tender for the upgrade of various gravel roads to bitumen standard.
Waititu has found himself facing arrests for reasons such as abuse of office, bribery, money laundering and corruption as a whole which is bound to be disappointing his electorates who came out in large numbers to vote out previous Governor Kabogo.
With Governor Waititu’s restriction from office, that leaves his deputy, Dr. James Nyoro to run major affairs.
Waititu’s relationship with his deputy is in shackles and has been so for the tenure he has been in office.
It is unlikely that Waititu will resign following the criminal charges facing him and his wife as he is known to have a low regard of the law.
