The Prices of Safaricom Data Have Dropped by 42 Percent

One of Safaricom shareholders, Vodacom, has revealed that the Kenyan leading telecommunications company has had the largest cut as its data prices have reduced by 42 percent.

Vodacom also disclosed that Safaricom, together with other Vodacom associates and subsidiaries, reduced their data charges in terms of price per Megabyte (MB).

Safaricom topped the list by 42 percent, followed by DR Congo operations who lowered their data prices by 29.9 percent, Lesotho then followed by 28.9 percent, then South Africa by 23.3 percent and lastly Tanzania dropped its charges by 13.8 percent.

In its review report, Vodacom said, “In the context of our commitment to drive digital inclusion, and given the tough consumer environment, we recognize the imperative to further lower data prices in some of our markets, while ensuring that this does not compromise our ability to make the investments in network and IT infrastructure needed to broaden service delivery and maintain high-quality offerings.”

According to the Vodacom multinational, regulatory activities and the competitive environment would prompt even further cuts in data prices to help the associates keep at per with the changes.

Safaricom has clearly strived to maintain its competitive edge with continuous inventions and innovations in the communications sector with the latest being the reverse call.

The closest Safaricom competitors, Airtel have equally made progress and plans to form a merger with Telkom Kenya are underway.

Safaricom offers a wide range of data services that include, the daily bundles, weekly bundles and monthly bundles which also depend on the type of Tariff you are using.

The youthful population from age 16-26 are also covered in their unique Blaze bundles. Tunukiwa is equally another special data service by Safaricom that covers the whole population.
