BY Soko Directory Team · August 19, 2019 07:08 am

Traders in Githurai are counting enormous losses after they woke up to a raging fire that consumed the timber and furniture yard along Thika Road.

Some residents say the fire started at around 4.am in a furniture shop and spread out to other nearby stalls destroying the property of unknown value.

The fire response team from Nairobi County, Kiambu County, and Kahawa Barracks were later dispatched at the scene and were able to put out the inferno after a long battle that lasted for hours. The Kenya Red Cross team is also on the scene.

Some traders were able to salvage their items from the early morning fire while others were left tongue-tied and counting losses.

The Githurai fire had even disrupted traffic as motorists were forced to use other lanes to avoid being caught up in the scene.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
