Kenyan Chef, Maliha Mohammed, Breaks Guinness World Record After Cooking for 75 Hours

Maliha Mohammed has now entered the Guinness Book of World Records after cooking for 75 hours and 3 minutes breaking the previous record set by an America Rickey Lumpkin II of 68 hours and 30 minutes.

Maliha participated in the cooking Marathon at a hotel in Mombasa where she started cooking from Thursday at 10 am and finished on Sunday at 1.03 p.m., resting for 30 minutes after every 12 hours of cooking.

Maliha was being watched by the adjudicators from the records agency at the Kenya Beach Bay Hotel in Mombasa.

The Current record is 68 hours and 30 minutes held by an American, and if Maliah’s record is ratified, she will become the first African to win the cooking marathon category.

Maliha,36 is a self-made chef came up with 400 recipes from local Italian, Indian and even international cuisines which she prepared during the cooking race.

Maliha had sent her application to participate in the Guinness cooking competition last year but had opted out due to inadequate funds stating that she was only able to raise 15,000 shillings.

The mother of three got support from several well-wishers including Pwani Oil Products Limited who supplied her with cooking oil and Sea Gas Limited who gave her a cooking gas.

Maliha will join other outstanding Kenyans who have been featured in the Guinness book of records but falling on different categories including renown athletes like Paul Tergat, Tegla Lorupe, Daniel Komen and Samuel Wanjiru who are world record-breaking marathon runners.

Joseph Love, is another Kenyan who cannot be forgotten as he featured in the Guinness list after milking 30 cows by hand in 24 hours back in 1992.

Maliha’s efforts were lauded by the Pwani Oil Products Limited Commercial Director Rajul Malde,who said this would be a special way of attracting tourists as tourists coming to Kenya would want to have a taste of Maliha’s recipe.
