Drug-Laden Egerton Graduate Kills Father in Murang’a County

The village of Gaturi, Kiharu Constituency in Murang’a County was shocked today, 13^th September 2019, after their 68-year-old neighbour was allegedly murdered by his son who is reported to be a graduate of Egerton University.

The young man, whom according to neighbours, was once a peace-loving boy had been involved in several conflicts with his family.

The suspect who is currently recuperating at the Murang’a General Hospital was attacked by a mob that swore to lynch him.

The suspect who is accused of killing his 68-year-old father, according to the locals, was a known drug addict and had developed a criminal character in his bid to maintain his drug abuse life.

The Murang’a County Police Commander, Josephat Kinyua, acknowledged the incident saying that they had already begun investigations to get to the motive that could have led the young man to kill his father and if he indeed committed the offence.

Commander Kinyua, however, noted that the preliminary investigations had revealed that the suspect was heavily laden with drugs at the time of the arrest.

“We have initiated investigations to understand what led to the man killing his father but there are indications that the suspect is a notorious abuser of drugs. He is recuperating at Murang’a hospital,” said Mr Kinyua.

The suspect, who is said to be a graduate from the University of Egerton, according to neighbours, picked the habit of abusing drugs while at the institution.

“Before joining university, the suspect was a peaceful and quiet man. He was never involved in criminal activities. But we think peer pressure and bad company led to him abusing hard drugs,” neighbours said.

Locals at Gaturi village, where the crime occurred, said the old man who lived quietly in his iron-sheet wall small house had done his very best to give his son a good education despite being poor.
