Once Zimbabwe’s Strongman Robert Mugabe Is Dead

Robert Mugabe, the former Zimbabwe president is dead at the age of 95 years after a long illness.

Robert Mugabe was confirmed dead to the World by the current President Emmerson Mnangagwa on today’s morning, 6th September 2019.

Mugabe had been hospitalized in Singapore since April 2019 after his health deteriorated.

Mugabe is a crucial part of Zimbabwe’s history as he led the Country between the years 1980, when the Country received its freedom, to 2017 when Mugabe was booted by a military coup.

Mugabe was ousted by a military coup in 2017 after he ruled for three decades, 30 years to be specific, which earned him the term dictator and tyrant.

Mugabe will be remembered for the ruthlessness he showed in his rule even at several times unleashing death squads, rigging elections on a number of times and literally bringing the economy of Zimbabwe onto its knees.

Mugabe forgot the war veterans that fought for his country’s independence from Britain and took to amassing wealth for himself and his family.

Zimbabwe’s current President Mnangagwa in his announcement that confirmed Mugabe’s death to the World, however, overlooked all the vices and chose to celebrate him in the tweet below.

“It is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe’s founding father and former President, CDE Robert Mugabe.

“CDE Mugabe was an icon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people. His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

The 2017 coup that ousted Mugabe left him humiliated which is said to have quickly sipped on his already poor health as he had previously sworn to rule Zimbabwe until he turned 100 years.

A former political prisoner who later turned into a guerrilla leader, Mugabe was born on 21^st  February 1924 into a Catholic family at Kutama Mission northwest of Harare.

Mugabe who was described as a loner who loved reading as a child even as he tended cattle in the bushy villages of Zimbabwe is likely not to receive many kind words even in his death given the legacy he left behind.
