Some busy roads in Nairobi will be closed to host the Standard Chartered Marathon that will be held on Sunday.

According to the Standard Chartered Marathon organizers, the marathon will affect eight busy routes that were used back in 2016.

The affected routes will be closed from 4 am to 12.30 p.m. to host the Standard Chartered Marathon.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid any inconveniences on that particular day. Standard Chartered has made it clear that they will not disrupt traffic especially on routes that are critical.

“We do not expect a major disruption in the flow of traffic. We have carefully organized traffic diversions to ensure that Nairobi county residents have alternative routes to critical locations in the city including hospitals, churches, and airports,” said the organizers.

“Please use the traffic diversions and follow the police instructions. Traffic on the roads before 6.30 am is expected to be light,” they added.

Sunday is seen as a less busy day as compared to other days that making it convenient for both the event and the motorists.

The Standard Chartered race will host more than 25, 000 participants and aims at raising 60 million shillings, to help an upcoming youth initiative program branded ‘Future Makers’.

The affected routes are:

  1. Museum Hill
  2. Forest Road
  3. University Way
  4. Kenyatta Avenue
  5. Harambee Avenue
