Three suspected terrorists have been gunned down today, 1st October 2019, in an early morning raid by over 20 security officers in Likoni, Mombasa County.
The raid comes amidst alerts of likely terror attacks in the Coastal region, and was led by a multi-agency security team from the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) and the elite Recce Squad.
The multi-agency security team raided a house where the suspects were believed to have been living in and shot dead three suspects while seven others were handcuffed.
“Those arrested are currently undergoing investigative interviewing,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said, adding that the suspects were found to be in the possession of weapons including grenades, a G3 rifle, more than 1,600 bullets, and bomb-making materials.
The suspects were also found in possession of 68 air rifle pellets, nine balaclavas, military/police uniforms, military holsters and porches, rifle oil, one GPS, six machetes and three knives, all of which are now in police custody.
The ten suspected terrorists are reported to have been in the process of planning several attacks in Mombasa including in the Mombasa International Airport.
Members of the public are continually advised to be on the lookout for any suspicious individuals and to report to the police in case of concern.
