Birth Control Injection For Men Could Soon Fill The Market

Scientists have confirmed that we may have male birth control drugs in the market in seven months once it is approved.

According to the scientists, the birth control is ready and has even successfully completed a trial at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Dr. R.S Sharma, a senior scientist with the ICMR, explained that the male contraceptive is an injectable one, that will have to be directly injected into the man’s penis

According to Dr. R.S Sharma, the birth control has no side effects as none of the recruited candidates reported having experienced side effects after being injected with the drug.

“The birth control is almost ready now, the trials are over, including extended, Phase 3 clinical trials for which 303 candidates were recruited. For the recruitment, we are glad to say that we have recorded a 97.3 percent success rate,” said Dr. Sharma.

Dr. Sharma explained that the birth control is made from styrene malieic anhydride, and is supposed to be injected directly to the two ducts that carry sperms out of the testicles.

Unlike women’s contraceptives which last for a relatively short period, the yet to be unveiled male birth control’s effects can last for up to 13 years.

It is said that the polymer (styrene malieic anhydride), was developed long in the 1970s by one professor S.K Guha of the Indian Institute of Technology, and that the ICMR have just been doing further research on it to see if they could turn it into a product of mass use, something that they have finally achieved.

ICMR further reports that the injectables are not the only male contraceptives that work as Los Angeles Biomed Research Institute developed and tried pills successfully on healthy men.

This could be the best invention if it is looked at from a woman’s point of view. But will men welcome this as part of sharing relationship responsibilities with their partners? Already, ICMR reports that men are skeptical about having to be injected with birth control drugs.
