Kenya Launches First-Ever Digitized Occurrence Book at Kasarani Police Station

Kenya has launched its first digitized Occurrence Book common to many as the OB at the Kasarani Police Station.

The new digitized OB system that will see Kenyans record statement in a digitized manner and has currently been installed at Kasarani police station was launched on 22^nd November by Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai.

Kenya’s first digitized OB was installed in the presence of top policemen by officials from the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT).

The digitized OB system was placed at the Kasarani Police Station Reception where officers on duty are expected to key-in complaints, statements, and details of criminal activities reported in the station unlike previously when they used to be written manually.

“The technology among other benefits ensures that all entries made are a permanent record that cannot be edited, thus guaranteeing transparency and accountability in police operations at the station level,” the National Police Service (NPS) said.

Police officers under the Ministry of Interior Security were classified as the topmost corrupt in Kenya following a high corruption perception by a report published by the EACC.

OB entries have been known to disappear in police stations thanks to rogue police officers who are known to pluck pages after pocketing bribes.

“The reports entered will be subject to monitoring by ward, county, and regional commanders as well as the Inspector General and other top police chiefs,” NPS said.

Mr. Mutyambai, the Police IG, encouraged police officers to embrace the change, as it will make an entry, referral, and retrieval of data faster than was previously witnessed.

The government has been acting on a bid to achieve total digitization in service delivery in public facilities with the launch of the Standing Orders App, accessible only by members of the service, coming just a few weeks ago.

The Standing Orders App requires officers to key-in their unique service numbers and their passwords and is for monitoring purposes.
