SWVL To Resume Operations By End Of November

Online Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operator, SWVL, will be resuming operations by end of November after it fully complies with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) regulations.

The local tech app-based vehicle which was launched in Nairobi City in February was ordered by authorities alongside another online tech firm Little Shuttle, to stop their operations on 1st October, 2019.

The two firms were suspended after claims that they were not properly registered and were therefore operating illegally, without proper PSV license.

SWVL, in their updates, informed their customers that they were on talks with the NTSA and would soon be returning to business.

In a statement by the firm, SWVL positively indicated that by the end of the month, they will have finished their engagement with NTSA, enabling them to be covered by the requisite regulations.

SWVL commuters, especially those on Kasarani, Wangige, Jogoo road, Westlands and Kiambu routes have been experiencing challenges such as ride cancellations, which SWVL management attributed to the non-compliance, and promised that once they are fully compliant the hitches will stop.

SWVL also said that they will be offering new routes- Thika-Westlands, Ngong-Westlands and Kahawa-Kilimani- as soon as they resume operations.

While some routes are still experiencing challenges, most SWVL routes have returned to normalcy as the firm works on compliance.

E-shuttles target passengers who would otherwise be using their personal cars to move around by allowing them to book a seat at the comfort of their homes, after which they are picked at specific places and times starting from 6:45 am on weekdays.

People who prefer to use this type of transport often have to pay a bit more than the normal matatu price as the ride is prompt, more comfortable and free of hassles.
