With the climate change sweeping across the globe, smart cities seem to be the only solution in conserving the environment and doing away with agents that contribute to environmental disasters.

Some of the key features of a smart city include the use of electric cars that have less emissions as compared to both diesel and petrol-powered cars, use of solar energy for lighting and heating, use of energy-conserving machines and gadgets, using green energy to conserve the environment and to have buildings that will not only be residential areas but contribute to the conservation of the world.

A city becoming smart is a gradual process. It is not something that happens overnight. African cities can achieve smartness status through individuals. A city becoming smart is not about the government, but the people embracing smart life.
