Cabinet Renames Moi Day To Huduma Day
The Cabinet, chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta has renamed Moi Day to Huduma Day and Boxing Day to Utamaduni Day.
Moi Day is often celebrated on the 10th of October each year while Boxing Day is traditionally celebrated on the 26th of December around the world.
According to the Cabinet, the change of Moi Day to Huduma Day is in line with the desire of former President Daniel Toroitich Moi to have the day commemorated as a day of service to the people.
Utamuduni means “tradition” or “heritage.” Utamaduni Day, therefore, according to the Cabinet, will give Kenyans an opportunity to celebrate and appreciate different cultural activities across the country.
The two proposals will have to be approved by parliament before officially being declared as national holidays.
