Here Are The 2020 Term Dates For Schools And Colleges

The Ministry of Education has released new term dates for the year 2020 for both schools and colleges.

According to the Ministry of Education, for public schools, the first term of 2020 will kick off in January 6, 2020 and break on April 14, 2020 for a short holiday.

The second term for 2020 for public institutions will kick off on May 4, 2020 and will run until August 7, 2020.

The third term for 2020 will start on August 31, 2020 and will end on November 30, 2020 for long December holidays.

For both pre-primary and primary schools, the first and second terms will have 14 weeks each while the third term will be the shortest with just 9 weeks.

For 2020 examination timetables, the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) will start on November 2, 2020 to November 5, 2020.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will kick off from November 6, 2020 to November 30.

Students in public primary and secondary schools will break for first half-term break on February 17, 2020 to February 21, 2020.

The second half-term break for the second term will be on June 15, 2020 to June 19, 2020. There will be no half-term break for students in third term.

Teachers training colleges (TTCs) will start their 2020 term on January 7 and will run to April 10.

The second term for teachers training colleges will start on May 4, 2020 and will come to an end on August 7.

Students in teachers training colleges will start their third term in September 1, 2020 to November 13.

The Ministry of Education is also in a rush to fully role out the new curriculum known as Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) that has faced resistance from various stakeholders.

The current education system in Kenya has been blamed for producing academic robots in form of students and graduates who have no touch with the reality on the ground.

The current education system has also been blamed for being mostly theoretical and lacks the much-needed practical skills to help students upon graduation.
