Top Kenyan Foods Enjoyed During Christmas Holiday

I interviewed a diverse number of Kenyans to inquire about what foods they preferred during Christmas and came up with a list of top foods preferred during Christmas.

Chapati

Chapati… or Chapo…is a common meal here in Kenya.

Chapati can be eaten with a lot of dishes ranging from beef stew to chicken it also goes nicely with rice.

Traditionally this has always been a ceremonious type of food with our parents stating that they used to eat chapati only on Christmas.

Chicken

So many ways to make chicken, stew it roast, fry it, marinate it or throw it in the oven, Chicken will always remain a top meal in Kenya for festive occasions.

It is recognized as a luxurious meal.

Roasted Goat Meat

Famously known as Nyama Choma, this is a Kenyan delicacy most preferably eaten with Kachumbari. Kenyans will enjoy this season as the men in most households gather to roast meat; it is talking and bonding activity for most men in families.

Pilau

Pilau is a rice dish whose recipe usually involves cooking in stock or broth, adding spices, and other ingredients such as vegetables and meat, people prefer Beef pilau this festive season as compared to normal white rice. Most people also stated that they prefer pilau with avocado or kachumbari on the side.

Mokimo/Irio

Mukimo is a Kenyan meal prepared by mashing potatoes and green vegetables. It may also include maize and beans. Mukimo is mostly served as an accompaniment for meat-based stew and Nyama Choma. Though originally from the central part of Kenya, Mukimo is now consumed amongst various communities in Kenya.

Most Kenyans prefer this delicacy in the festive season to be enjoyed with a different type of meats and stew dishes.

Roasted Potatoes

That is what Kenyans will be enjoying this Christmas and most people interviewed added that the foods have to go with alcohol on the side preferably wine or beer.
